So I was researching ongoing Batman comic books to see if I should subscribe to one. Naturally, I gravitated to the Frank Miller title, "All-Star Batman and Robin", which is apparently DC's answer to Marvel's Ultimate line. This is what I find: badgenious.blogspot.com/2008/09/another-goddamn-batman-list-most-insane.htmlWhen did Frank Miller become a hack? This kind of shit is why I can't ever commit to subscribing to a DC title. It seems like all of their writers eventually go insane. Anyways, that page is good for a painful laugh or ten and I thought I'd share.

DC...that is what a "goddamn Batman" looks like. The quality is obviously not matching to anything fans expect. It's difficult to accept the fact that Frank Miller, who gave such a unique spin on Batman in THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS that it resulted in 1989's BATMAN, has been obviously indulging in his overhyped ego that he can't understand what is quality and what is not. You might get some scum to buy this series, but obviously they're there for the swears or scantly-clad ladies.

Judging by those panels on that link, it seems like Miller decided to drop the DC Universe straight into Basin City. This may sound cool on paper at first since Sin City is so awesome and his Batman is (was) so dark, but it's obviously an awful idea in execution. I've never read a Miller comic that wasn't amazing and I'd like to keep it that way. I would have been extremely angry if I'd paid money for crap like that.

Hands down, that's my FAVORITE Sin City story. It's also the only segment that makes me regret my decision NOT to own SIN CITY on DVD. Batman is Batman, and he's allowed to be dark but I think Miller is too busy writing another SIN CITY story. It doesn't work. Batman pushes himself into dark places only because sometimes it's all he can do in order to outwit his criminal opponent. This can make him dark and brooding, but from what I could read in the one panel Batman is just downright depressing and whiny....almost like an emo that's a sociopathic narcissist. Oh, and I think the first clue we had that Miller was a hack was the lovely job he did on the script for

Ah yes, the script for [image]. Who could forget that?
And THIS, my friends, is the reason DC sucks. Like Trashy says, there must be something going on down there that turns the writers into lunatics. Maybe it's working for a company that basically calls itself Detective Comics Comics.
See, I'm confused about this; would this Batman story be considered Canon? Like, when he's running around God-damning this and dry humping everything that moves.. does that fit into any kind of continuity?

Happens to me all the time too, Wolfy.
Ahhhh.. Robocop 2. Well, I'll be the first to admit it - I actually really quite enjoyed that film. Dark as all hell - even now there are moments hard to stomach; that horrible little boy, for one, ("can't shoot a kid can you, fucker?"), not to mention Robocop getting torn to pieces.
And come on, what's not to love about the bit when he gets reprogrammed to be "nice"?

I did not know Miller wrote that. It's been a while, but I don't remember hating it at all. then again, it's not really a series I feel I'll revisit anytime soon. All-Star Batman And Robin is to DC continuity what Marvel's Ultimate universe is to them, to my understanding. I'm not going near it.

Robocop is exceptional. Robocop 2 is pretty damn good. Robocop 3 is unspeakable.
Anyway, I really did try and get into DC, but they make it so damn hard. Have you ever looked up one of the early characters on, say, Wikipedia and tried to make sense of it all? If you want an example of how fucked up their timelines and continuity is, check out Supergirl's Wiki page.
