So who's ready for this shit? I got tickets for me and my group two weeks ago, and it's a good thing too because this flick is already selling out before it's even opened. My local cineplex is playing it on four screens - the only other time I've ever seen them do that was for Spider-Man 3.
I'll be donning the Joker makeup once more and seeing The Dark Knight tomorrow at 7:45pm EST. What about the rest of y'all?

Tonight. Midnight. My sister called last night to invite me to a midnight showing then but I was at work. That makes me a sad, sad panda. But all will be well in a mere 6 hours and 15 minutes. Enjoy, guys; this is our worldwide holiday!

Damn, I would've thought they'd give this one a simultaneous worldwide opening. That's what they did back in 2003 with X2, and that led to that flick being the #1 grossing flick in 80 countries at once.
A few peeps that I know are watching The Dark Knight as we speak here on east coast of the States. Trashy, just how agonizing is this last hour and ten minutes feeling for you?

Holy Hell.
The Dark Knight is a work of art! Not just good moviemaking, fucking ART! It's unbelievable. People in the theater were applauding, laughing, gasping, reeling in horror, and most of all cheering. Unless you've spoiled yourself crazy reading reviews and spoilers and what not, this movie will go places and do things that you seriously won't expect.
Best superhero movie ever? Check. One of the best crime dramas ever? Double check.
And how this flick slipped by with just a PG-13 rating is beyond me. How many dicks at the MPAA did Chris Nolan have to suck to get away with that miracle? One of my friends who is 17 years old was still visibly disturbed by Ledger's Joker hours after the movie was over. It's so fucking sweet. As impressed as I was by the snippets of Ledger's performance that we'd seen in the trailers, I thought it was silly that so many people were prematurely saying that he should be nominated for an Oscar so long before the movie came out (and only after he died no less, which indicates what really motivated such premature praise). Now after seeing the movie, there is absolutely no question in my mind that the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor belongs to Heath Ledger. It's such a shame that he's gone, because he deserves that award and he deserves so much praise for his performance here.
Was this really two and a half hours? It sure as hell didn't feel like it. It's so intensely gripping, it just pulls you in and sucks you through the story that by the time the end credits start to roll you'll practically need to catch your breath and settle your blood pressure. What an experience!

"Best supporting actor"? Pssssh. He was the star of the show. I've written a review, but it hasn't posted on Amazon yet. I'll link it here when it does. Surprisingly, I didn't give it a perfect score though I do agree it is a whole new kind of comic book film. I may enjoy it more on repeat viewings, but I felt like it needed to be longer. Too much story, not enough time to tell it. Word has it that there is three hour director's cut out there. I'm all over it if it comes out.

Well, mr Johnny Come Lately Curmudgeon has finally seen The Dark Knight (to be fair, though - it has only been in the UK for 2 days. Boy we suck.)
Anyway.. I was astonished by how good this film actually is. This isn't a superhero movie. Not to cheapen the name of one of my favourite genre's, but this is so much more than that. Initially it's a superb crime thriller, with an intelligent, original well-written story about gangsters, double-dealings and corruption, but when the comic book moments happen, the film comes alive. The action sequences are amazing. The truck-flip scene is a thing of beauty, and the Bat-Pod (originally trashed by yours truly on this very site) was bad-ass.
And then there's the performances. A stellar cast with the likes of Bale, Caine and Freeman will always deliver the goods, but really, this film belongs to Heath Ledger. Every minute he's on screen he absolutely owns it - you just can't look away, even though he's monstrous and terrifying. The bit where he growls "LOOK AT ME" actually made the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. I predict (as I already said before I'd seen it) that Ledger's Joker is going to go down in cinema history as one of the most iconic performances in history. 20 years down the line students will still have "Why So Serious" posters on their walls.
I was a little disappointed that Two-Face was the "secondary" villain in the film, as I thought he was going to be "made" near the end (like The Leader in the Incredible Hulk), and be the villain in the third movie, but I did like the fact they spent a large part of the film actually making us care about Harvey Dent, (instead of just bunging him in the film with no real explanation like Batman Forever). It's just a shame Two-Face himself didn't get more time to shine.
All in all - a fantastic achievement, far superior to Batman Begins and if Heath doesn't get that Oscar nod, the nerds of the world should unite and riot.

I thought Two-Face was handled terrifically, assuming he comes back. Caring about Dent was the whole point. Seeing him become a big-time criminal in the future would be sweet. The Batpod was cool, but the blowing stuff up was way over-the-top. Talk about needless property destruction. The truck flip blew my head off, but the crash afterword was just embarrassing. TDK a greater "film" than BB, but as a true Batman comic book movie I like the last one better. This one was too epic for a mere 2 1/2 hours. More, I say! This movie isn't in competition with Hulk and Iron Man, it's going up against Scarface and Godfather.

Yes, if what you're saying about Two-Face is true then it's a masterstroke, because he wasn't some two-bit (ahem) villain, you could actually understand why he lost his mind.
Anyway, now the euphoria has dimmed, I'll name some things I DIDN'T like about the Dark Knight.
Barbara Gordon is Commissioner Gordon's WIFE? Hunh? I must have missed this the first time around, (if she was mentioned at all, I can't remember much about Batman Begins) When Gordon says to his son "go see your sister", I was like.. "ah.. that would be Batgirl." But no. Fair enough don't make her part of this universe, but why call the wife Barbara in the first place?
Right at the start, when Batman BENDS the front of the gun one of the fake Bats is about to fire. My wife turned to me and said, "so, what, he's got super powers now?"
The whole Batman flying around Gotham thing. Yeah yeah, it's a handglider or something, but I think it was used too much and took a lot away from the "plausibility" of the film.
That whole mind-boggling "we'll take every cell phone in Gotham and make it 3-D or something" plot. Was this supposed to be their take on Oracle?
Piddling issues, of course. But still..

All true gripes. I'm sure they want to stay away from Batgirl, but I think it could be awesome. They missed out on a golden chance to introduce Babs here. I would have liked to see her introduced in TDK, then take up the cape and cowl in the next film trying to ape Batman and wind up getting paralyzed at the end, then spinning off into a Birds of Prey movie with Canary, Huntress and maybe even a little Catwoman. My fanboy dream. I actually just discovered that there was a live-action BOP series in your neck of the woods some years ago, Curmudgeon. I'm checking that out with a quickness.

Yeah, I remember Birds of Prey coming out on our Sci-Fi Channel a few years back, but it was history pretty much as soon as I decided to check it out. I don't even think you can buy it on DVD yet. As for Catwoman - imagine THIS casting.. Sexy action star Angelina Jolie has inquired about playing the feline role of Catwoman in the next Batman sequel--this according to senior Catwoman actress Julie Newmar.
Newmar, who made the role famous in the cornball Batman of the 1960s, told the New York Daily News: "Angelina would own the part. My industry friends tell me (she) has made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love. She's tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainessImagine THAT in a Catwoman costume....? Oh my.

You are hired, Angie. So ridiculously hired.
BOP is out here which is really odd because we are usually several years behind your programming. We just got "Spaced" for God's sake!
